Central America

From Imakoopedia

Central America is the thin section of land that links the North American continent with South America. Made up of several small, mostly poor countries -- with notable exceptions -- over the last 20 years the area has been subject to brutal repression, civil war, and proxy fights between the US and the Soviet Union.

That dark introduction, however, shouldn't color your appreciation of Central America as a travel destination. Generally, the people of Central America are kind and warm, and welcoming to foreigners. There is a diversity of culture from one end of Central America to the other, and indigenous culture plays an important role in the region.

Beaches in the area range from amazing to fantastic, and hiking, climbing, jungle exploration, biking, and sailing are all spectacular. The eastern coast can give the experience of a Caribbean island with a much lower price.
